Reading Never Say ‘No’ to a Princess! with Preschoolers and Learning Manners

This month I have thoroughly enjoyed reading the delightful children’s story book Never Say ‘No’ to a Princess! by Tracey Corderoy and published by Alison Green Books with my preschoolers. This children’s book does makes a fantastic teaching tool as it subtly and beautifully highlights the importance of manners and being polite for young children which is an important part of their social development. The lovely illustrations by Kate Leake are both simple and detailed and really captivate the little ones attention.

What the children and I have enjoyed most about this book is that it’s filled with humor and keeps us all laughing while also gently teaching about the value of having good manners. My preschoolers were able to make inferences to the story during other spontaneous moments during our daily routine in a humorous way and were able to recall about the importance of saying ‘Please’. As a mother and teacher, I think these kinds of stories for young children are the best, stories that make the little ones laugh make for joy-filled moments together. I’ve had my preschoolers ask to read this beautiful book over and over again as it is so much fun and it also teaches them something valuable as well.
