It’s that time of year when we are starting to practice with our preschoolers for their graduation ceremony.his year, I tried something new to help the little ones understand visually what we were practicing and preparing for. I set up some chairs in the space where their visiting families will sit on the day of their graduation ceremony. We have a family tree wall with pictures of all their families, so for our practice time each day, we’ll choose a few of the children’s families’ pictures and stick them onto the chairs. We’ll take it in turn so that during the week, all get a turn to place their families picture on a chair.
Having this little visual has helped them to understand who we are preparing the performance for, as well as helping them to understand which way to face when singing. And some days, we put the dollies, teddies, or hand puppets in the chairs to sing to if we need a bit of a laugh and to change things up a wee bit. I try to keep our practice sessions short and sweet and let the children choose which songs or poems they want to perform themselves as this helps them to have a part in the process of choosing.
