Here is a simple arts and crafts idea I did with my preschoolers for Easter. They love making cards to bring home on special occasions.
I folded and piece of white card and cut it in the shape of an oval. This is a good time to introduce them to the name of this shape as young children learn best in meaningful real-life contexts.
I provided them with some different colored paints and sponges with each colour having its own brush already dipped in the paint. I find this is a simple and direct way of teaching them to not to mix all the colours together. We open up the card and cut and paste a little chick for the inside and have a blank side to write a note in.
I also helped them trace circles on yellow paper and choose stickers for eyes and colored feathers and glue these on. While working with them we chat about the difference between a circle and an oval and learning about ‘a pair of eyes’, ‘a pair of wings’ and we also learn about animals that ‘hatch’ from an egg including little dinosaurs that we all love.
